A Letter from Your Log Home

Dear ______ (homeowner),

If I were given the chance to talk with you, there are some things I would like you to know.  As your home, I enjoy protecting you from the elements and being a safe haven from storms of all kinds.  I appreciate being your castle and meeting place where family and friends gather for meals and special occasions.  I really like the sign you hung up that reads, "Home Sweet Home".  It makes me feel warm inside, even though the stove isn't going.  I strive to be the best home I can be, and I know you care for me, but sometimes, I feel neglected.  I want to look my best for you!
"So they all went away from the little log house. The shutters were over the windows, so the little house could not see them go. It stayed there inside the log fence, behind the two big oak trees that in the summertime had made green roofs for Mary and Laura to play under."
---Laura Ingalls Wilder
When my logs shine and look pretty, I know you are proud of me.  Here are a few ideas that may help.
  1. Bugs!  I don't like them crawling all over and chewing on my wood.  Here's how you can help.  If ever I need a reapplication of stain on my logs, those nice folks over at Montana Specialty Log Construction will apply PeneTreat during the process.  It is a water-based borate product.  Borate preserves against wood-ingesting insects and rot.  Plus, it is environmentally friendly, safe for people, pets and plants and has no glycols.  Borate is EPA registered.
  2. Dirt or mildew!  I don't like this one either.   Sometimes, all I need is a good wash and an application of Cascade, a clear maintenance top coat that repels water, resists mildew/algae and protects against UV damage.
  3. Peeling!  Any peeling, flaking or fading of my logs makes me grumpy.  I know I don't look my best when this is going on and it can lead to bigger problems. The great thing about this problem, is that I only need reapplication when and where needed.  Those friends I was telling you about use a product called Capture® Log Stain.  It is a  unique formula that moves freely as your logs move, instead of cracking and peeling like other stains. It provides the long-lasting protection I need and creates the perfect look we want.
Before & After logs were power-washed and coated with a clear-coat of Cascade.

Thank you for reading my letter.  I know you are a good homeowner and take pride in me.  I am happy to be your home!  Here's to many, many years together!
Sincerely,
Home Sweet Home
